I love Stitch Fix – that’s no surprise if you’ve seen any of my reviews. I have had so much success getting great pieces and really improving my sense of style as a whole, that when I heard they were adding Stitch Fix for men, I knew I had to have my fiance try it! After several months of asking him to try it he finally caved. Stitch Fix had a promotion going on where he wouldn’t have to pay for a styling fee if he signed up, so I was able to convince him to give it a try. Here’s some things you need to know: 1. My fiance is a hard-working guy. He can’t sit still for more than a few minutes and he’s always working on something. 2. This means he’s always in jeans or shorts, and a t shirt. 3. He’s also a career firefighter, so he doesn’t need to dress up to go to work. With these things together, I knew it would be difficult to style him, but my curiosity got the best of me!
I put his style profile together and wrote his note for him. He really was only doing this for me, and I will say I am so happy he let me! I asked for medium to dark wash jeans that would work over boots, potentially for our wedding. I also asked for very casual pieces – long sleeved t shirts, short sleeved t shirts, and flannels. I also had to mention to keep everything as cheap as possible, since I’ve only ever gone clothes shopping with him once in five and a half years. He’s not a fan of spending money on clothes, but he did say he would pay for a good pair of jeans if they would work for the wedding.
So, what did he get?
Hawker Rye Essential Wash Long Sleeve Shirt ($58)
His thoughts: This is nice, but I’ll only wear it a couple times a year. That’s a lot of money for something I’ll hardly wear.
My thoughts: I really liked this! At our age, a lot of our friends are getting married, and I thought this would be a good shirt to wear to weddings. The color is nice (and would go well with a lot of the dresses I already have) and it fit him well. I do have to agree with him though – since we asked for casual items, this wasn’t really something worth the money right now. We’re trying to save up for our own wedding!
Liverpool Bolt Relaxed Straight Jean ($88)
His thoughts: The jeans are how much? …They fit well, but they’re a little tight over boots. I don’t think these will work for the wedding.
My thoughts: I really like these jeans on him! They do look better over regular shoes than boots; they were a little tight at the bottom. Other than that, I really like the wash and they fit him well. They are great quality (Liverpool jeans are my favorite) and I think they’re worth the price. But, since they didn’t work for the wedding, there was no way I could convince him.
Alternative Apparel Champ Fleece Sweatshirt ($50)
His thoughts: Why is the neck hole so big?! I feel like this is something a six year old would wear. You know I don’t like to wear camo.
My thoughts: I don’t even disagree. I told him he looked like he was going to his first day of school. While the fleece was soft, this isn’t something he would wear. Just because we live on a farm doesn’t mean we wear camo as a fashion statement! The huge neck hole was also a little confusing.
Threads 4 Thought Baseline Triblend V-Neck Tee ($28)
His thoughts: I’m not a V-neck person.
My thoughts: He’s not a V-neck person. I’ve never seen him wear a V neck and I could tell he wasn’t comfortable in it. This was one of the cheapest clothing pieces I’ve seen from Stitch Fix, but it is just a plain t-shirt. Take away the V-neck and this might have worked for him.
Tavik Bayberry Hidden Front Pocket Shirt ($49)
His thoughts: Where would I wear this? I don’t really like anything about it.
My thoughts: He’s a little blunt. But, this was probably my least favorite piece he got. I really don’t like the colors together, and I can’t think of a single place he would wear this.
What did he keep?

My fiance’s first Stitch Fix experience wasn’t exactly the best, since two of the five pieces were too formal, and two other pieces were not his style at all. To be fair, Stitch Fix for men is really new. I’m sure they don’t have nearly as much to pick from as they do for women, and then there’s the fact that he’s really hard to shop for, anyway. The stylist did mention in her note that everything was machine washable, which was nice, and that is something that would matter to him. He felt the prices were too high, but I think (if he had liked more than two of the five pieces) it was a very reasonably priced Fix. Stitch Fix mentions on their site that the average cost for an item is $55.
The first Fix is usually not the best anyway, since the stylist doesn’t really know you, which I told him. But, I think this was a one time deal for him. I am extremely thankful that my fiance did this for me and let me take his picture, and even post this! He’s a great sport. I don’t think you’ll see another Stitch Fix for men review any time soon from him, but I’m anxiously awaiting my next box! I had to take a few months’ break to save for the wedding, but come May, I’ll be posting again!
